All departments in Minnesota have minimum requirements to apply to become a firefighter. Here’s the short list that is most common to all fire departments:
1. 18+ years old
2. Minnesota driver’s license
3. Clean criminal background – This is determined on a case-by-case basis.
4. Your home within 5-10 minute drive time to nearest station (varies by dept)
5. 25-33% response to all calls at your fire station (varies by dept)
